Dear Rob:

Thanks for your email and thank you for the opportunity to again serve as Co-Chair the Fellows Committee for the Section.

The Fellows Selection Committee (Jennifer Bloodworth, Tae Bronner, Brenda Ezell, Angela Santos, Josh Rosenberg, Chris Sajdera, Larry Miller and myself) has completed its work and is pleased to recommend the following applicants for fellowship.  As you know, we considered 57 applicants, checked references, and conducted interviews.

I understand you would like to review our recommended fellows with the past chairs of the Section.  Please let me know no later than this Thursday, June 27, 2019 whether you or any of the past chairs have any concerns with our recommended fellows, so that we can notify them of their selection by the end of this week.  I will await your approval before notifying the applicants.

We recommend:

Antonio Romano - Comiter, Singer Baseman & Braun - Palm Beach Gardens.  (Probate and Trust).  Antonio Romano is a probate and trust practitioner in Palm Beach Gardens.  He is a recent graduate of the William Reece Smith Jr. Leadership Academy, an affiliate Board Member of the Gay & Lesbian Lawyers Association.  A graduate of the University of Miami College of Law, Mr. Romano comes highly recommended from his colleagues in the Palm Beach Bar.  His application demonstrates a commitment to his practice and a great deal of enthusiasm to participate in the Section's work.

Joseph M. Percopo  Mateer & Harbert, P.A.- Orlando.  (Probate and Trust).  Joseph Percopo has an estate planning and probate practice in Orlando.  He has an LLM in tax from the University of Florida, and has served on the Florida Bar's Young Lawyers Division Board of Governors, where he was instrumental in creating the Bar's Law Student Division.  He has already published seven articles on tax planning and estate issues. This is his fourth year applying for the Section fellowship.

Michelle Hinden - Nishad Khan, PL - Orlando (Real Property).  Michelle practices with Nishad Khan law in Orlando, where she focuses her practice on transactional real estate issues.  She serves on the Real Estate Board Certification Committee for the Florida Bar, and has been selected to chair the Committee in the coming term.  She has already published in the Actionline and attended several Executive Council Meetings.

Kristen Jaiven - Quad Realty Investments, Inc., - Boca Raton (Real Property).  Kristen is the General Counsel for the Signature Real Estate Companies.  She has been active in the Section for the past several years, presenting in CLEs and active with the real estate leasing committee, and membership and inclusion committee.

Thanks so much Rob.

Ben

Good morning,

I'm too old to know any of these folks.  I appreciate the efforts, and also have a suggestion for future reviews (as Ben diamond knows, in a prior year I learned of a fellow that should not have been selected, but after the fact).

We old fart past chairs may not know these young "up and coming" folks.  I suggest that the committee consider contacting potential peers in the geographic areas where the applicants practice (maybe ALMS?), and attempt to find any local background on the persons - even if on an informal basis.  While I agree a full blown peer review is not practical, it might be a little more thorough to have these folks vetted through attorneys with whom they might have had prior contacts.

Regards to all,

Steve Hearn

At the risk of starting one of the continuous cycle of mundane comments,  I
was merely echoing the sage advice of brother Hearn that most of us, Steve

make this evaluation.

these recommendations (Ben and Jen are copied on this email, so that you
