Attached are a few things for the Long Range Planning follow up on Thursday at 4pm:

1. The revised ALMs Chart from Steve.  I have made a couple edits at the very bottom of the chart (start at line 80).
2. A couple of emails explaining Steve’s thought process on the ALMS charts, drops and other items, as well as all the work Steve has done as ALMs Director.  Please also see the email string below to supplement this.  I support Steve’s statements with regard to my commentary and lack of concern for many who did not renew given that (a) we are trying to shrink the council; and (b) many PT non-renewals have homes elsewhere.  Many drops were not folks I did not believe contributed much in recent years, which is why I did not chase them for renewal apps (Barr, Pilotte, Warner).

To refresh your memories, this is what I think the agenda is for LRP 2.0:

1. We have already approved the renewals, so we do not need to re-address that, but I am happy to go through this chart line by line if you find that helpful.
2. We need to address the DROPS (those are #38 and #70 -79).
3. We need to address the ADDs (those are #8, 11, 18, 21, 25, 41, 49, 54, 56, 68, 81, 82 and 83).

You are probably aware that I was in your firm’s conference room all day today.

I am cleaning up the report and in that process found an email from me to Sarah.  The capital letters at the end is her response:

The attrition has accomplished the objective of the Long Range Planning- i.e. reduction in number of ALMs.  There have always been more PT ALMs, so there were more non-renewing PT persons.  But, in case there is someone who is worth saving, the list of non-renewing PT ALMs is: Akins, Barr, Batlle, Behar, Coleman, George, Grosso, Hipsman, Pilotte, Sherrill, Sneeringer, Warner, Wells, White.    ALMOST ALL OF THEE HAVE SPOTS ELSEWHERE SO THEY ARE NOT REAL DROPS.  BUT YES, OK NOT TO RENEW.

Hope that this gives insight into the thought process.  The report will show the reasoning that they ‘have a home elsewhere’ so was OK to drop from ALMs.  Those transitioning off of chair or vice chair positions as we cleaned up the extras were added to ALMs and account for most of the adds.  Michael wanted to know the reasoning.  It was quite deliberate, whether right or wrong.

I will send it to you tomorrow, before I leave for Tally.

Attached is the unedited form of the report as it left my office.  I was delayed in getting this to you as I was at ACREL.  Clearly it did not have all of information that you wanted to see, but it also had more information than you saw.  I will add more comments, fix the errors and add the circuits (I kept a version with the circuits written in by hand for use at the meeting) and get it back to you.

As to the ALMs-  I did not report each event or what has happened and yes, that is my responsibility, but everything has been done in the open and it is a work is process-  I was getting ready for my report on Saturday, but since that might be too late for your use- I can give you a preview:

This year, we started by enhancing and restructuring the ALMs page on the Section’s site.  It is still hard to find, but once you get there, it is robust.  All of the Lead ALMs’ plans (those that were received) were filed there for everyone to see and share. New Lead ALMs could borrow the forms and ideas and did not have to start from scratch.  And yes, the posting created the peer pressure of making reports at meetings. There are now ALMs’ pictures, names, projects, a directory and activities and it has been updated and enhanced all year.  It clearly is the best page of the Section’s site.

We were in COVID, so NPLH was stalled by State and Federal stays, but it did not go away.  We immediately were called upon to deal with Champlain Towers-and posted the ask Statewide and got volunteers from Tampa and Orlando (among others) that I know of- my objective was to make ALMs truly ‘at large’ and it happened immediately.  Without Zoom, there was no practical way in the past to interact, contribute and work ‘at large.’

I have Zoom meetings with Lead ALMS for about an hour about every 7 weeks.  We hear about projects both past and planned.  The interaction is focused, efficient, positive and fun.

I have been attending Circuit meetings throughout the year via Zoom, something that was not part of the Lead ALMs role in the past as it was not possible or realistic. They appreciate it almost as much as I do!  This is a diverse and amazing group.

At my first ALMs meeting, I announced three major changes:  1. When possible, we would have a guest speaker from a program at our meeting to inform and educate.  We have had one guest (from Tampa Bay legal aid-arranged by a Lead ALM) and we have a second guest set for this Thursday (also arranged by a Lead ALM).  Each guest is from a program speaking out their programs, their needs and our interaction (this week’s is from West Palm Beach- speaking in our  Tallahassee meeting via Zoom- something that ALMs could never have seen or done in their meetings before). The first speaker was over the top appreciative of the opportunity to speak directly with the ALMs and the ALMs reciprocated. I expect the same on Thursday.  2. I am encouraging leadership to surface and help chair the ALMs meetings. I believe that this should be their meeting, not me talking at them.  This week’s meeting will be chaired by an ALM who volunteered to do that. He has helped form his agenda. There will be two ALMS reporting on their projects and the speaker from WPB legal aid.  To me, that form of meeting has much more value than a list of reports.  3.  The ALM of the year- I told them that I would not make that designation, but instead it has to come from the ALMs themselves.  We have a few months to go, but I already have a few nominations and they are ALL FOR THE SAME PERSON! The ALMs recognize the stand out and when I make that presentation, I know that the recipient will value the award more than one coming from just me alone- it will come from his/her peers.

New concept- ALMs sponsors- I asked Bill Sklar to help find sponsors for the ALMs and for ALMs events. Bill enthusiastically approved the concept.  I have encouraged the ALMs to help find sponsors too.  I expect that will be a huge win/win when it happens.

The electronic era has come to the ALMs.  At my last Zoom meeting with Lead ALMs (last week), I mentioned to them that more than 1/3 of them called out the need for more Social Media in their self-nominations (I converted that form to be filled out on line-which was appreciated).  That discussion lead to the need for a shared Google Calendar – more buy in to the concept of true AT LARGE members.  There is a strong desire/interest to participate across the state and to know what is going on in real time.  We have two law school interview programs in the works (one was last week).  The links were shared for ALMs to observe or participate.  Less than an hour after the meeting, I had volunteers to help with the Google Calendar that they want to share with each other and with the law students  (their idea!).  There also was an offer to set up both FaceBook and Twitter accounts (I need to clear these, but they should work!).

Two weeks ago, there was a post in one of the small circuits (I monitor them) seeking a pro bono probate litigator.  I calendared it for a follow up and got back with that Lead ALM and asked if she needed me to post it for state wide.  I was told that the need was filled in less than 10 minutes. This is not the ALMs of the past.

You are probably aware that I was in your firm’s conference room all day today.

I am cleaning up the report and in that process found an email from me to Sarah.  The capital letters at the end is her response:

The attrition has accomplished the objective of the Long Range Planning- i.e. reduction in number of ALMs.  There have always been more PT ALMs, so there were more non-renewing PT persons.  But, in case there is someone who is worth saving, the list of non-renewing PT ALMs is: Akins, Barr, Batlle, Behar, Coleman, George, Grosso, Hipsman, Pilotte, Sherrill, Sneeringer, Warner, Wells, White.    ALMOST ALL OF THEE HAVE SPOTS ELSEWHERE SO THEY ARE NOT REAL DROPS.  BUT YES, OK NOT TO RENEW.

Hope that this gives insight into the thought process.  The report will show the reasoning that they ‘have a home elsewhere’ so was OK to drop from ALMs.  Those transitioning off of chair or vice chair positions as we cleaned up the extras were added to ALMs and account for most of the adds.  Michael wanted to know the reasoning.  It was quite deliberate, whether right or wrong.

I will send it to you tomorrow, before I leave for Tally.

Peggy, George and Michael:

Attached is the unedited form of the report as it left my office.  I was delayed in getting this to you as I was at ACREL.  Clearly it did not have all of information that you wanted to see, but it also had more information than you saw.  I will add more comments, fix the errors and add the circuits (I kept a version with the circuits written in by hand for use at the meeting) and get it back to you.

As to the ALMs-  I did not report each event or what has happened and yes, that is my responsibility, but everything has been done in the open and it is a work is process-  I was getting ready for my report on Saturday, but since that might be too late for your use- I can give you a preview:

This year, we started by enhancing and restructuring the ALMs page on the Section’s site.  It is still hard to find, but once you get there, it is robust.  All of the Lead ALMs’ plans (those that were received) were filed there for everyone to see and share. New Lead ALMs could borrow the forms and ideas and did not have to start from scratch.  And yes, the posting created the peer pressure of making reports at meetings. There are now ALMs’ pictures, names, projects, a directory and activities and it has been updated and enhanced all year.  It clearly is the best page of the Section’s site.

We were in COVID, so NPLH was stalled by State and Federal stays, but it did not go away.  We immediately were called upon to deal with Champlain Towers-and posted the ask Statewide and got volunteers from Tampa and Orlando (among others) that I know of- my objective was to make ALMs truly ‘at large’ and it happened immediately.  Without Zoom, there was no practical way in the past to interact, contribute and work ‘at large.’

I have Zoom meetings with Lead ALMS for about an hour about every 7 weeks.  We hear about projects both past and planned.  The interaction is focused, efficient, positive and fun.

I have been attending Circuit meetings throughout the year via Zoom, something that was not part of the Lead ALMs role in the past as it was not possible or realistic. They appreciate it almost as much as I do!  This is a diverse and amazing group.

At my first ALMs meeting, I announced three major changes:  1. When possible, we would have a guest speaker from a program at our meeting to inform and educate.  We have had one guest (from Tampa Bay legal aid-arranged by a Lead ALM) and we have a second guest set for this Thursday (also arranged by a Lead ALM).  Each guest is from a program speaking out their programs, their needs and our interaction (this week’s is from West Palm Beach- speaking in our  Tallahassee meeting via Zoom- something that ALMs could never have seen or done in their meetings before). The first speaker was over the top appreciative of the opportunity to speak directly with the ALMs and the ALMs reciprocated. I expect the same on Thursday.  2. I am encouraging leadership to surface and help chair the ALMs meetings. I believe that this should be their meeting, not me talking at them.  This week’s meeting will be chaired by an ALM who volunteered to do that. He has helped form his agenda. There will be two ALMS reporting on their projects and the speaker from WPB legal aid.  To me, that form of meeting has much more value than a list of reports.  3.  The ALM of the year- I told them that I would not make that designation, but instead it has to come from the ALMs themselves.  We have a few months to go, but I already have a few nominations and they are ALL FOR THE SAME PERSON! The ALMs recognize the stand out and when I make that presentation, I know that the recipient will value the award more than one coming from just me alone- it will come from his/her peers.

New concept- ALMs sponsors- I asked Bill Sklar to help find sponsors for the ALMs and for ALMs events. Bill enthusiastically approved the concept.  I have encouraged the ALMs to help find sponsors too.  I expect that will be a huge win/win when it happens.

The electronic era has come to the ALMs.  At my last Zoom meeting with Lead ALMs (last week), I mentioned to them that more than 1/3 of them called out the need for more Social Media in their self-nominations (I converted that form to be filled out on line-which was appreciated).  That discussion lead to the need for a shared Google Calendar – more buy in to the concept of true AT LARGE members.  There is a strong desire/interest to participate across the state and to know what is going on in real time.  We have two law school interview programs in the works (one was last week).  The links were shared for ALMs to observe or participate.  Less than an hour after the meeting, I had volunteers to help with the Google Calendar that they want to share with each other and with the law students  (their idea!).  There also was an offer to set up both FaceBook and Twitter accounts (I need to clear these, but they should work!).

Two weeks ago, there was a post in one of the small circuits (I monitor them) seeking a pro bono probate litigator.  I calendared it for a follow up and got back with that Lead ALM and asked if she needed me to post it for state wide.  I was told that the need was filled in less than 10 minutes. This is not the ALMs of the past.

Attached are a few things for the Long Range Planning follow up on Thursday at 4pm:

1. The revised ALMs Chart from Steve.  I have made a couple edits at the very bottom of the chart (start at line 80).
2. A couple of emails explaining Steve’s thought process on the ALMS charts, drops and other items, as well as all the work Steve has done as ALMs Director.  Please also see the email string below to supplement this.  I support Steve’s statements with regard to my commentary and lack of concern for many who did not renew given that (a) we are trying to shrink the council; and (b) many PT non-renewals have homes elsewhere.  Many drops were not folks I did not believe contributed much in recent years, which is why I did not chase them for renewal apps (Barr, Pilotte, Warner).

To refresh your memories, this is what I think the agenda is for LRP 2.0:

1. We have already approved the renewals, so we do not need to re-address that, but I am happy to go through this chart line by line if you find that helpful.
2. We need to address the DROPS (those are #38 and #70 -79).
3. We need to address the ADDs (those are #8, 11, 18, 21, 25, 41, 49, 54, 56, 68, 81, 82 and 83).

I am cleaning up the report and in that process found an email from me to Sarah.  The capital letters at the end is her response:

The attrition has accomplished the objective of the Long Range Planning- i.e. reduction in number of ALMs.  There have always been more PT ALMs, so there were more non-renewing PT persons.  But, in case there is someone who is worth saving, the list of non-renewing PT ALMs is: Akins, Barr, Batlle, Behar, Coleman, George, Grosso, Hipsman, Pilotte, Sherrill, Sneeringer, Warner, Wells, White.    ALMOST ALL OF THEE HAVE SPOTS ELSEWHERE SO THEY ARE NOT REAL DROPS.  BUT YES, OK NOT TO RENEW.

Hope that this gives insight into the thought process.  The report will show the reasoning that they ‘have a home elsewhere’ so was OK to drop from ALMs.  Those transitioning off of chair or vice chair positions as we cleaned up the extras were added to ALMs and account for most of the adds.  Michael wanted to know the reasoning.  It was quite deliberate, whether right or wrong.

I will send it to you tomorrow, before I leave for Tally.

Attached is the unedited form of the report as it left my office.  I was delayed in getting this to you as I was at ACREL.  Clearly it did not have all of information that you wanted to see, but it also had more information than you saw.  I will add more comments, fix the errors and add the circuits (I kept a version with the circuits written in by hand for use at the meeting) and get it back to you.

As to the ALMs-  I did not report each event or what has happened and yes, that is my responsibility, but everything has been done in the open and it is a work is process-  I was getting ready for my report on Saturday, but since that might be too late for your use- I can give you a preview:

This year, we started by enhancing and restructuring the ALMs page on the Section’s site.  It is still hard to find, but once you get there, it is robust.  All of the Lead ALMs’ plans (those that were received) were filed there for everyone to see and share. New Lead ALMs could borrow the forms and ideas and did not have to start from scratch.  And yes, the posting created the peer pressure of making reports at meetings. There are now ALMs’ pictures, names, projects, a directory and activities and it has been updated and enhanced all year.  It clearly is the best page of the Section’s site.

We were in COVID, so NPLH was stalled by State and Federal stays, but it did not go away.  We immediately were called upon to deal with Champlain Towers-and posted the ask Statewide and got volunteers from Tampa and Orlando (among others) that I know of- my objective was to make ALMs truly ‘at large’ and it happened immediately.  Without Zoom, there was no practical way in the past to interact, contribute and work ‘at large.’

I have Zoom meetings with Lead ALMS for about an hour about every 7 weeks.  We hear about projects both past and planned.  The interaction is focused, efficient, positive and fun.

I have been attending Circuit meetings throughout the year via Zoom, something that was not part of the Lead ALMs role in the past as it was not possible or realistic. They appreciate it almost as much as I do!  This is a diverse and amazing group.

At my first ALMs meeting, I announced three major changes:  1. When possible, we would have a guest speaker from a program at our meeting to inform and educate.  We have had one guest (from Tampa Bay legal aid-arranged by a Lead ALM) and we have a second guest set for this Thursday (also arranged by a Lead ALM).  Each guest is from a program speaking out their programs, their needs and our interaction (this week’s is from West Palm Beach- speaking in our  Tallahassee meeting via Zoom- something that ALMs could never have seen or done in their meetings before). The first speaker was over the top appreciative of the opportunity to speak directly with the ALMs and the ALMs reciprocated. I expect the same on Thursday.  2. I am encouraging leadership to surface and help chair the ALMs meetings. I believe that this should be their meeting, not me talking at them.  This week’s meeting will be chaired by an ALM who volunteered to do that. He has helped form his agenda. There will be two ALMS reporting on their projects and the speaker from WPB legal aid.  To me, that form of meeting has much more value than a list of reports.  3.  The ALM of the year- I told them that I would not make that designation, but instead it has to come from the ALMs themselves.  We have a few months to go, but I already have a few nominations and they are ALL FOR THE SAME PERSON! The ALMs recognize the stand out and when I make that presentation, I know that the recipient will value the award more than one coming from just me alone- it will come from his/her peers.

New concept- ALMs sponsors- I asked Bill Sklar to help find sponsors for the ALMs and for ALMs events. Bill enthusiastically approved the concept.  I have encouraged the ALMs to help find sponsors too.  I expect that will be a huge win/win when it happens.

The electronic era has come to the ALMs.  At my last Zoom meeting with Lead ALMs (last week), I mentioned to them that more than 1/3 of them called out the need for more Social Media in their self-nominations (I converted that form to be filled out on line-which was appreciated).  That discussion lead to the need for a shared Google Calendar – more buy in to the concept of true AT LARGE members.  There is a strong desire/interest to participate across the state and to know what is going on in real time.  We have two law school interview programs in the works (one was last week).  The links were shared for ALMs to observe or participate.  Less than an hour after the meeting, I had volunteers to help with the Google Calendar that they want to share with each other and with the law students  (their idea!).  There also was an offer to set up both FaceBook and Twitter accounts (I need to clear these, but they should work!).

Two weeks ago, there was a post in one of the small circuits (I monitor them) seeking a pro bono probate litigator.  I calendared it for a follow up and got back with that Lead ALM and asked if she needed me to post it for state wide.  I was told that the need was filled in less than 10 minutes. This is not the ALMs of the past.

Attached are a few things for the Long Range Planning follow up on Thursday at 4pm:

1. The revised ALMs Chart from Steve.  I have made a couple edits at the very bottom of the chart (start at line 80).
2. A couple of emails explaining Steve’s thought process on the ALMS charts, drops and other items, as well as all the work Steve has done as ALMs Director.  Please also see the email string below to supplement this.  I support Steve’s statements with regard to my commentary and lack of concern for many who did not renew given that (a) we are trying to shrink the council; and (b) many PT non-renewals have homes elsewhere.  Many drops were not folks I did not believe contributed much in recent years, which is why I did not chase them for renewal apps (Barr, Pilotte, Warner).

To refresh your memories, this is what I think the agenda is for LRP 2.0:

1. We have already approved the renewals, so we do not need to re-address that, but I am happy to go through this chart line by line if you find that helpful.
2. We need to address the DROPS (those are #38 and #70 -79).
3. We need to address the ADDs (those are #8, 11, 18, 21, 25, 41, 49, 54, 56, 68, 81, 82 and 83).

You are probably aware that I was in your firm’s conference room all day today.

I am cleaning up the report and in that process found an email from me to Sarah.  The capital letters at the end is her response:

The attrition has accomplished the objective of the Long Range Planning- i.e. reduction in number of ALMs.  There have always been more PT ALMs, so there were more non-renewing PT persons.  But, in case there is someone who is worth saving, the list of non-renewing PT ALMs is: Akins, Barr, Batlle, Behar, Coleman, George, Grosso, Hipsman, Pilotte, Sherrill, Sneeringer, Warner, Wells, White.    ALMOST ALL OF THEE HAVE SPOTS ELSEWHERE SO THEY ARE NOT REAL DROPS.  BUT YES, OK NOT TO RENEW.

Hope that this gives insight into the thought process.  The report will show the reasoning that they ‘have a home elsewhere’ so was OK to drop from ALMs.  Those transitioning off of chair or vice chair positions as we cleaned up the extras were added to ALMs and account for most of the adds.  Michael wanted to know the reasoning.  It was quite deliberate, whether right or wrong.

I will send it to you tomorrow, before I leave for Tally.

Attached is the unedited form of the report as it left my office.  I was delayed in getting this to you as I was at ACREL.  Clearly it did not have all of information that you wanted to see, but it also had more information than you saw.  I will add more comments, fix the errors and add the circuits (I kept a version with the circuits written in by hand for use at the meeting) and get it back to you.

As to the ALMs-  I did not report each event or what has happened and yes, that is my responsibility, but everything has been done in the open and it is a work is process-  I was getting ready for my report on Saturday, but since that might be too late for your use- I can give you a preview:

This year, we started by enhancing and restructuring the ALMs page on the Section’s site.  It is still hard to find, but once you get there, it is robust.  All of the Lead ALMs’ plans (those that were received) were filed there for everyone to see and share. New Lead ALMs could borrow the forms and ideas and did not have to start from scratch.  And yes, the posting created the peer pressure of making reports at meetings. There are now ALMs’ pictures, names, projects, a directory and activities and it has been updated and enhanced all year.  It clearly is the best page of the Section’s site.

We were in COVID, so NPLH was stalled by State and Federal stays, but it did not go away.  We immediately were called upon to deal with Champlain Towers-and posted the ask Statewide and got volunteers from Tampa and Orlando (among others) that I know of- my objective was to make ALMs truly ‘at large’ and it happened immediately.  Without Zoom, there was no practical way in the past to interact, contribute and work ‘at large.’

I have Zoom meetings with Lead ALMS for about an hour about every 7 weeks.  We hear about projects both past and planned.  The interaction is focused, efficient, positive and fun.

I have been attending Circuit meetings throughout the year via Zoom, something that was not part of the Lead ALMs role in the past as it was not possible or realistic. They appreciate it almost as much as I do!  This is a diverse and amazing group.

At my first ALMs meeting, I announced three major changes:  1. When possible, we would have a guest speaker from a program at our meeting to inform and educate.  We have had one guest (from Tampa Bay legal aid-arranged by a Lead ALM) and we have a second guest set for this Thursday (also arranged by a Lead ALM).  Each guest is from a program speaking out their programs, their needs and our interaction (this week’s is from West Palm Beach- speaking in our  Tallahassee meeting via Zoom- something that ALMs could never have seen or done in their meetings before). The first speaker was over the top appreciative of the opportunity to speak directly with the ALMs and the ALMs reciprocated. I expect the same on Thursday.  2. I am encouraging leadership to surface and help chair the ALMs meetings. I believe that this should be their meeting, not me talking at them.  This week’s meeting will be chaired by an ALM who volunteered to do that. He has helped form his agenda. There will be two ALMS reporting on their projects and the speaker from WPB legal aid.  To me, that form of meeting has much more value than a list of reports.  3.  The ALM of the year- I told them that I would not make that designation, but instead it has to come from the ALMs themselves.  We have a few months to go, but I already have a few nominations and they are ALL FOR THE SAME PERSON! The ALMs recognize the stand out and when I make that presentation, I know that the recipient will value the award more than one coming from just me alone- it will come from his/her peers.

New concept- ALMs sponsors- I asked Bill Sklar to help find sponsors for the ALMs and for ALMs events. Bill enthusiastically approved the concept.  I have encouraged the ALMs to help find sponsors too.  I expect that will be a huge win/win when it happens.

The electronic era has come to the ALMs.  At my last Zoom meeting with Lead ALMs (last week), I mentioned to them that more than 1/3 of them called out the need for more Social Media in their self-nominations (I converted that form to be filled out on line-which was appreciated).  That discussion lead to the need for a shared Google Calendar – more buy in to the concept of true AT LARGE members.  There is a strong desire/interest to participate across the state and to know what is going on in real time.  We have two law school interview programs in the works (one was last week).  The links were shared for ALMs to observe or participate.  Less than an hour after the meeting, I had volunteers to help with the Google Calendar that they want to share with each other and with the law students  (their idea!).  There also was an offer to set up both FaceBook and Twitter accounts (I need to clear these, but they should work!).

Two weeks ago, there was a post in one of the small circuits (I monitor them) seeking a pro bono probate litigator.  I calendared it for a follow up and got back with that Lead ALM and asked if she needed me to post it for state wide.  I was told that the need was filled in less than 10 minutes. This is not the ALMs of the past.

Attached are a few things for the Long Range Planning follow up on Thursday at 4pm:

1. The revised ALMs Chart from Steve.  I have made a couple edits at the very bottom of the chart (start at line 80).
2. A couple of emails explaining Steve’s thought process on the ALMS charts, drops and other items, as well as all the work Steve has done as ALMs Director.  Please also see the email string below to supplement this.  I support Steve’s statements with regard to my commentary and lack of concern for many who did not renew given that (a) we are trying to shrink the council; and (b) many PT non-renewals have homes elsewhere.  Many drops were not folks I did not believe contributed much in recent years, which is why I did not chase them for renewal apps (Barr, Pilotte, Warner).

To refresh your memories, this is what I think the agenda is for LRP 2.0:

1. We have already approved the renewals, so we do not need to re-address that, but I am happy to go through this chart line by line if you find that helpful.
2. We need to address the DROPS (those are #38 and #70 -79).
3. We need to address the ADDs (those are #8, 11, 18, 21, 25, 41, 49, 54, 56, 68, 81, 82 and 83).

You are probably aware that I was in your firm’s conference room all day today.

I am cleaning up the report and in that process found an email from me to Sarah.  The capital letters at the end is her response:

The attrition has accomplished the objective of the Long Range Planning- i.e. reduction in number of ALMs.  There have always been more PT ALMs, so there were more non-renewing PT persons.  But, in case there is someone who is worth saving, the list of non-renewing PT ALMs is: Akins, Barr, Batlle, Behar, Coleman, George, Grosso, Hipsman, Pilotte, Sherrill, Sneeringer, Warner, Wells, White.    ALMOST ALL OF THEE HAVE SPOTS ELSEWHERE SO THEY ARE NOT REAL DROPS.  BUT YES, OK NOT TO RENEW.

Hope that this gives insight into the thought process.  The report will show the reasoning that they ‘have a home elsewhere’ so was OK to drop from ALMs.  Those transitioning off of chair or vice chair positions as we cleaned up the extras were added to ALMs and account for most of the adds.  Michael wanted to know the reasoning.  It was quite deliberate, whether right or wrong.

I will send it to you tomorrow, before I leave for Tally.

Peggy, George and Michael:

Attached is the unedited form of the report as it left my office.  I was delayed in getting this to you as I was at ACREL.  Clearly it did not have all of information that you wanted to see, but it also had more information than you saw.  I will add more comments, fix the errors and add the circuits (I kept a version with the circuits written in by hand for use at the meeting) and get it back to you.

As to the ALMs-  I did not report each event or what has happened and yes, that is my responsibility, but everything has been done in the open and it is a work is process-  I was getting ready for my report on Saturday, but since that might be too late for your use- I can give you a preview:

This year, we started by enhancing and restructuring the ALMs page on the Section’s site.  It is still hard to find, but once you get there, it is robust.  All of the Lead ALMs’ plans (those that were received) were filed there for everyone to see and share. New Lead ALMs could borrow the forms and ideas and did not have to start from scratch.  And yes, the posting created the peer pressure of making reports at meetings. There are now ALMs’ pictures, names, projects, a directory and activities and it has been updated and enhanced all year.  It clearly is the best page of the Section’s site.

We were in COVID, so NPLH was stalled by State and Federal stays, but it did not go away.  We immediately were called upon to deal with Champlain Towers-and posted the ask Statewide and got volunteers from Tampa and Orlando (among others) that I know of- my objective was to make ALMs truly ‘at large’ and it happened immediately.  Without Zoom, there was no practical way in the past to interact, contribute and work ‘at large.’

I have Zoom meetings with Lead ALMS for about an hour about every 7 weeks.  We hear about projects both past and planned.  The interaction is focused, efficient, positive and fun.

I have been attending Circuit meetings throughout the year via Zoom, something that was not part of the Lead ALMs role in the past as it was not possible or realistic. They appreciate it almost as much as I do!  This is a diverse and amazing group.

At my first ALMs meeting, I announced three major changes:  1. When possible, we would have a guest speaker from a program at our meeting to inform and educate.  We have had one guest (from Tampa Bay legal aid-arranged by a Lead ALM) and we have a second guest set for this Thursday (also arranged by a Lead ALM).  Each guest is from a program speaking out their programs, their needs and our interaction (this week’s is from West Palm Beach- speaking in our  Tallahassee meeting via Zoom- something that ALMs could never have seen or done in their meetings before). The first speaker was over the top appreciative of the opportunity to speak directly with the ALMs and the ALMs reciprocated. I expect the same on Thursday.  2. I am encouraging leadership to surface and help chair the ALMs meetings. I believe that this should be their meeting, not me talking at them.  This week’s meeting will be chaired by an ALM who volunteered to do that. He has helped form his agenda. There will be two ALMS reporting on their projects and the speaker from WPB legal aid.  To me, that form of meeting has much more value than a list of reports.  3.  The ALM of the year- I told them that I would not make that designation, but instead it has to come from the ALMs themselves.  We have a few months to go, but I already have a few nominations and they are ALL FOR THE SAME PERSON! The ALMs recognize the stand out and when I make that presentation, I know that the recipient will value the award more than one coming from just me alone- it will come from his/her peers.

New concept- ALMs sponsors- I asked Bill Sklar to help find sponsors for the ALMs and for ALMs events. Bill enthusiastically approved the concept.  I have encouraged the ALMs to help find sponsors too.  I expect that will be a huge win/win when it happens.

The electronic era has come to the ALMs.  At my last Zoom meeting with Lead ALMs (last week), I mentioned to them that more than 1/3 of them called out the need for more Social Media in their self-nominations (I converted that form to be filled out on line-which was appreciated).  That discussion lead to the need for a shared Google Calendar – more buy in to the concept of true AT LARGE members.  There is a strong desire/interest to participate across the state and to know what is going on in real time.  We have two law school interview programs in the works (one was last week).  The links were shared for ALMs to observe or participate.  Less than an hour after the meeting, I had volunteers to help with the Google Calendar that they want to share with each other and with the law students  (their idea!).  There also was an offer to set up both FaceBook and Twitter accounts (I need to clear these, but they should work!).

Two weeks ago, there was a post in one of the small circuits (I monitor them) seeking a pro bono probate litigator.  I calendared it for a follow up and got back with that Lead ALM and asked if she needed me to post it for state wide.  I was told that the need was filled in less than 10 minutes. This is not the ALMs of the past.

Attached are a few things for the Long Range Planning follow up on Thursday at 4pm:

1. The revised ALMs Chart from Steve.  I have made a couple edits at the very bottom of the chart (start at line 80).
2. A couple of emails explaining Steve’s thought process on the ALMS charts, drops and other items, as well as all the work Steve has done as ALMs Director.  Please also see the email string below to supplement this.  I support Steve’s statements with regard to my commentary and lack of concern for many who did not renew given that (a) we are trying to shrink the council; and (b) many PT non-renewals have homes elsewhere.  Many drops were not folks I did not believe contributed much in recent years, which is why I did not chase them for renewal apps (Barr, Pilotte, Warner).

To refresh your memories, this is what I think the agenda is for LRP 2.0:

1. We have already approved the renewals, so we do not need to re-address that, but I am happy to go through this chart line by line if you find that helpful.
2. We need to address the DROPS (those are #38 and #70 -79).
3. We need to address the ADDs (those are #8, 11, 18, 21, 25, 41, 49, 54, 56, 68, 81, 82 and 83).

You are probably aware that I was in your firm’s conference room all day today.

I am cleaning up the report and in that process found an email from me to Sarah.  The capital letters at the end is her response:

The attrition has accomplished the objective of the Long Range Planning- i.e. reduction in number of ALMs.  There have always been more PT ALMs, so there were more non-renewing PT persons.  But, in case there is someone who is worth saving, the list of non-renewing PT ALMs is: Akins, Barr, Batlle, Behar, Coleman, George, Grosso, Hipsman, Pilotte, Sherrill, Sneeringer, Warner, Wells, White.    ALMOST ALL OF THEE HAVE SPOTS ELSEWHERE SO THEY ARE NOT REAL DROPS.  BUT YES, OK NOT TO RENEW.

Hope that this gives insight into the thought process.  The report will show the reasoning that they ‘have a home elsewhere’ so was OK to drop from ALMs.  Those transitioning off of chair or vice chair positions as we cleaned up the extras were added to ALMs and account for most of the adds.  Michael wanted to know the reasoning.  It was quite deliberate, whether right or wrong.

I will send it to you tomorrow, before I leave for Tally.

Attached is the unedited form of the report as it left my office.  I was delayed in getting this to you as I was at ACREL.  Clearly it did not have all of information that you wanted to see, but it also had more information than you saw.  I will add more comments, fix the errors and add the circuits (I kept a version with the circuits written in by hand for use at the meeting) and get it back to you.

As to the ALMs-  I did not report each event or what has happened and yes, that is my responsibility, but everything has been done in the open and it is a work is process-  I was getting ready for my report on Saturday, but since that might be too late for your use- I can give you a preview:

This year, we started by enhancing and restructuring the ALMs page on the Section’s site.  It is still hard to find, but once you get there, it is robust.  All of the Lead ALMs’ plans (those that were received) were filed there for everyone to see and share. New Lead ALMs could borrow the forms and ideas and did not have to start from scratch.  And yes, the posting created the peer pressure of making reports at meetings. There are now ALMs’ pictures, names, projects, a directory and activities and it has been updated and enhanced all year.  It clearly is the best page of the Section’s site.

We were in COVID, so NPLH was stalled by State and Federal stays, but it did not go away.  We immediately were called upon to deal with Champlain Towers-and posted the ask Statewide and got volunteers from Tampa and Orlando (among others) that I know of- my objective was to make ALMs truly ‘at large’ and it happened immediately.  Without Zoom, there was no practical way in the past to interact, contribute and work ‘at large.’

I have Zoom meetings with Lead ALMS for about an hour about every 7 weeks.  We hear about projects both past and planned.  The interaction is focused, efficient, positive and fun.

I have been attending Circuit meetings throughout the year via Zoom, something that was not part of the Lead ALMs role in the past as it was not possible or realistic. They appreciate it almost as much as I do!  This is a diverse and amazing group.

At my first ALMs meeting, I announced three major changes:  1. When possible, we would have a guest speaker from a program at our meeting to inform and educate.  We have had one guest (from Tampa Bay legal aid-arranged by a Lead ALM) and we have a second guest set for this Thursday (also arranged by a Lead ALM).  Each guest is from a program speaking out their programs, their needs and our interaction (this week’s is from West Palm Beach- speaking in our  Tallahassee meeting via Zoom- something that ALMs could never have seen or done in their meetings before). The first speaker was over the top appreciative of the opportunity to speak directly with the ALMs and the ALMs reciprocated. I expect the same on Thursday.  2. I am encouraging leadership to surface and help chair the ALMs meetings. I believe that this should be their meeting, not me talking at them.  This week’s meeting will be chaired by an ALM who volunteered to do that. He has helped form his agenda. There will be two ALMS reporting on their projects and the speaker from WPB legal aid.  To me, that form of meeting has much more value than a list of reports.  3.  The ALM of the year- I told them that I would not make that designation, but instead it has to come from the ALMs themselves.  We have a few months to go, but I already have a few nominations and they are ALL FOR THE SAME PERSON! The ALMs recognize the stand out and when I make that presentation, I know that the recipient will value the award more than one coming from just me alone- it will come from his/her peers.

New concept- ALMs sponsors- I asked Bill Sklar to help find sponsors for the ALMs and for ALMs events. Bill enthusiastically approved the concept.  I have encouraged the ALMs to help find sponsors too.  I expect that will be a huge win/win when it happens.

The electronic era has come to the ALMs.  At my last Zoom meeting with Lead ALMs (last week), I mentioned to them that more than 1/3 of them called out the need for more Social Media in their self-nominations (I converted that form to be filled out on line-which was appreciated).  That discussion lead to the need for a shared Google Calendar – more buy in to the concept of true AT LARGE members.  There is a strong desire/interest to participate across the state and to know what is going on in real time.  We have two law school interview programs in the works (one was last week).  The links were shared for ALMs to observe or participate.  Less than an hour after the meeting, I had volunteers to help with the Google Calendar that they want to share with each other and with the law students  (their idea!).  There also was an offer to set up both FaceBook and Twitter accounts (I need to clear these, but they should work!).

Two weeks ago, there was a post in one of the small circuits (I monitor them) seeking a pro bono probate litigator.  I calendared it for a follow up and got back with that Lead ALM and asked if she needed me to post it for state wide.  I was told that the need was filled in less than 10 minutes. This is not the ALMs of the past.

Attached are a few things for the Long Range Planning follow up on Thursday at 4pm:

1. The revised ALMs Chart from Steve.  I have made a couple edits at the very bottom of the chart (start at line 80).
2. A couple of emails explaining Steve’s thought process on the ALMS charts, drops and other items, as well as all the work Steve has done as ALMs Director.  Please also see the email string below to supplement this.  I support Steve’s statements with regard to my commentary and lack of concern for many who did not renew given that (a) we are trying to shrink the council; and (b) many PT non-renewals have homes elsewhere.  Many drops were not folks I did not believe contributed much in recent years, which is why I did not chase them for renewal apps (Barr, Pilotte, Warner).

To refresh your memories, this is what I think the agenda is for LRP 2.0:

1. We have already approved the renewals, so we do not need to re-address that, but I am happy to go through this chart line by line if you find that helpful.
2. We need to address the DROPS (those are #38 and #70 -79).
3. We need to address the ADDs (those are #8, 11, 18, 21, 25, 41, 49, 54, 56, 68, 81, 82 and 83).

You are probably aware that I was in your firm’s conference room all day today.

I am cleaning up the report and in that process found an email from me to Sarah.  The capital letters at the end is her response:

The attrition has accomplished the objective of the Long Range Planning- i.e. reduction in number of ALMs.  There have always been more PT ALMs, so there were more non-renewing PT persons.  But, in case there is someone who is worth saving, the list of non-renewing PT ALMs is: Akins, Barr, Batlle, Behar, Coleman, George, Grosso, Hipsman, Pilotte, Sherrill, Sneeringer, Warner, Wells, White.    ALMOST ALL OF THEE HAVE SPOTS ELSEWHERE SO THEY ARE NOT REAL DROPS.  BUT YES, OK NOT TO RENEW.

Hope that this gives insight into the thought process.  The report will show the reasoning that they ‘have a home elsewhere’ so was OK to drop from ALMs.  Those transitioning off of chair or vice chair positions as we cleaned up the extras were added to ALMs and account for most of the adds.  Michael wanted to know the reasoning.  It was quite deliberate, whether right or wrong.

I will send it to you tomorrow, before I leave for Tally.

Peggy, George and Michael:

Attached is the unedited form of the report as it left my office.  I was delayed in getting this to you as I was at ACREL.  Clearly it did not have all of information that you wanted to see, but it also had more information than you saw.  I will add more comments, fix the errors and add the circuits (I kept a version with the circuits written in by hand for use at the meeting) and get it back to you.

As to the ALMs-  I did not report each event or what has happened and yes, that is my responsibility, but everything has been done in the open and it is a work is process-  I was getting ready for my report on Saturday, but since that might be too late for your use- I can give you a preview:

This year, we started by enhancing and restructuring the ALMs page on the Section’s site.  It is still hard to find, but once you get there, it is robust.  All of the Lead ALMs’ plans (those that were received) were filed there for everyone to see and share. New Lead ALMs could borrow the forms and ideas and did not have to start from scratch.  And yes, the posting created the peer pressure of making reports at meetings. There are now ALMs’ pictures, names, projects, a directory and activities and it has been updated and enhanced all year.  It clearly is the best page of the Section’s site.

We were in COVID, so NPLH was stalled by State and Federal stays, but it did not go away.  We immediately were called upon to deal with Champlain Towers-and posted the ask Statewide and got volunteers from Tampa and Orlando (among others) that I know of- my objective was to make ALMs truly ‘at large’ and it happened immediately.  Without Zoom, there was no practical way in the past to interact, contribute and work ‘at large.’

I have Zoom meetings with Lead ALMS for about an hour about every 7 weeks.  We hear about projects both past and planned.  The interaction is focused, efficient, positive and fun.

I have been attending Circuit meetings throughout the year via Zoom, something that was not part of the Lead ALMs role in the past as it was not possible or realistic. They appreciate it almost as much as I do!  This is a diverse and amazing group.

At my first ALMs meeting, I announced three major changes:  1. When possible, we would have a guest speaker from a program at our meeting to inform and educate.  We have had one guest (from Tampa Bay legal aid-arranged by a Lead ALM) and we have a second guest set for this Thursday (also arranged by a Lead ALM).  Each guest is from a program speaking out their programs, their needs and our interaction (this week’s is from West Palm Beach- speaking in our  Tallahassee meeting via Zoom- something that ALMs could never have seen or done in their meetings before). The first speaker was over the top appreciative of the opportunity to speak directly with the ALMs and the ALMs reciprocated. I expect the same on Thursday.  2. I am encouraging leadership to surface and help chair the ALMs meetings. I believe that this should be their meeting, not me talking at them.  This week’s meeting will be chaired by an ALM who volunteered to do that. He has helped form his agenda. There will be two ALMS reporting on their projects and the speaker from WPB legal aid.  To me, that form of meeting has much more value than a list of reports.  3.  The ALM of the year- I told them that I would not make that designation, but instead it has to come from the ALMs themselves.  We have a few months to go, but I already have a few nominations and they are ALL FOR THE SAME PERSON! The ALMs recognize the stand out and when I make that presentation, I know that the recipient will value the award more than one coming from just me alone- it will come from his/her peers.

New concept- ALMs sponsors- I asked Bill Sklar to help find sponsors for the ALMs and for ALMs events. Bill enthusiastically approved the concept.  I have encouraged the ALMs to help find sponsors too.  I expect that will be a huge win/win when it happens.

The electronic era has come to the ALMs.  At my last Zoom meeting with Lead ALMs (last week), I mentioned to them that more than 1/3 of them called out the need for more Social Media in their self-nominations (I converted that form to be filled out on line-which was appreciated).  That discussion lead to the need for a shared Google Calendar – more buy in to the concept of true AT LARGE members.  There is a strong desire/interest to participate across the state and to know what is going on in real time.  We have two law school interview programs in the works (one was last week).  The links were shared for ALMs to observe or participate.  Less than an hour after the meeting, I had volunteers to help with the Google Calendar that they want to share with each other and with the law students  (their idea!).  There also was an offer to set up both FaceBook and Twitter accounts (I need to clear these, but they should work!).

Two weeks ago, there was a post in one of the small circuits (I monitor them) seeking a pro bono probate litigator.  I calendared it for a follow up and got back with that Lead ALM and asked if she needed me to post it for state wide.  I was told that the need was filled in less than 10 minutes. This is not the ALMs of the past.
